Application Process

Our deadline for the January 2018 cohort has passed. Click here to create an account and receive notifications about program events and our next application.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so it is always best to complete and submit your application as soon as possible.

The application process for the NYC Teaching Collaborative consists of three parts: the online application, a phone interview, and an in-person interview (Selection Day). Check out our 2018 Application Guide for a step by step overview of the application process, as well as some tips and best practices for submitting a successful application.

  1. The online application:

Submit your online application as soon as possible, as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The online application collects information about your employment and academic background and subject area preferences, and will also include several short-answer essay questions. The short answer questions may be found within the 2018 Application Guide.
  2. The phone interview:

Following the online application, a select group of candidates will be invited to a phone interview. You can expect to hear back from us regarding the status of your application within four weeks of submitting a complete application. * Please note that some candidates may skip the phone interview and move directly to Selection Day if sufficient evidence has been collected through the review of their Online Application
  3. Selection Day:

Following the phone interview, a select group of candidates will be invited to an in-person interview in New York City. The interview will include a teaching sample, a group activity with other candidates, and a brief math assessment for math candidates. You must be prepared to interview in New York City. Not all candidates invited to a phone interview will be invited to an in-person interview.
  • Candidates with foreign degrees will be required to have their degree evaluated for U.S. equivalency by World Education Services if invited to interview for the program. If you have already had your transcripts evaluated by WES, we encourage you to submit them with your application.
Based on the strengths of your application and interview, your subject area eligibility, and the needs of New York City schools, you may be offered admission into the NYC Teaching Collaborative.  All candidates invited to interview will receive an update regarding the status of their application within four to six weeks of their interview event.

NYC Teaching Collaborative is a program of the NYC Department of Education. The size and composition of the program is subject to the DOE’s determination of hiring needs and budget availability.
