The NYC Teaching Collaborative affords aspiring teachers the opportunity to apprentice in a New York City public school for over four months prior to becoming a full-time teacher. During this unique, practical preparation, participants grow into effective teachers through hands-on experiences in a public school classroom and targeted, ongoing coaching from skilled Collaborative Coaches and program staff.  

Participants work as Partner Teachers in high-need NYC public school classrooms from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. under the guidance of an experienced teacher, or a Collaborative Coach. Every week, Partner Teachers also receive training from program staff on key strategies for successfully working with students in a high-need context. Partner Teachers will be informed of their progress and evaluated at integral points throughout their training and must demonstrate effectiveness in the classroom before teaching full time. During their training (January - May), participants receive a stipend in advance of becoming full-time teachers in the fall of 2018.
